الحاسوب
لا أحسب أن هناك جهازاً يفوق الحاسوب روعة, فهذا الابتكار الذي أمسى منتشراً على نطاق عالمي , يسهم في تطوير التكنولوجيا العصريّة التي هو جزءٌ منها, إنّه يقدر على إجراء عمليات معقّدة لا يقدر الإنسان على إجرائها وحده من دون مساعدة الحاسوب, إن هذا الجهاز الذي يتفوّق على الأداء العقلي للإنسان هو من صنع الإنسان نفسه.
إنّه نموذج مثالي للذكاء الاصطناعي , ولو أنّنا قارنا بين الذكاء البشري والذكاء الاصطناعي لرأينا أنّ الأوّل أرقى من الثاني رغم أنّ الحاسوب يقدر على ما لا يقدر العقل البشري على أدائه أو عمله. إن الأعمال التي يؤديها هذا الجهاز العجيب أكثر من أن تحصى, ليس هذا فحسب بل إنّه مفتاح الحضارة الإلكترونية لأنّنا نقدر عن طريقه على أن نخزّن ثقافات الأمم كلها وننتقي منها ما ينفعنا في الحقل الذي نعمل فيه , ففي مجال الكتابة والطبيعة على سبيل المثال نقدر على أن نخرج ما لا نقدر على إخراجه بالوسائل الأخرى , وفي مجال التعليم يقدّم لنا الحاسوب كلّ ما يروق لعقولنا في المجالات التي نحتاج إلى معلومات فيها .
لا ريب أنّ الحاسوب قد أصبح أداة لا يستغنى عنها في مجال المعرفة والثقافة , فنحن نقدر , على سبيل المثال , على أن نرجع إلى أيّة موسوعة كبيرة فنجد ما نطلب من دون عناء أو تعب , والحقّ أنّنا نفعل ذلك كله في طرفة عين , كذلك نقدر على أن نجد الحلول الدقيقة التي نطلبها لأيّة مشكلة علميّة كانت أم اقتصاديّة أم اجتماعيّة . إنّ الحديث عن الحاسوب يتطلّب صفحات وقدراً كبيراً من الوقت مما لا يتسع المجال له هنا لكن يمكن القول بأنّه الجهاز الذي يمكن الإنسان من معرفة الماضي والمستقبل بصورة أدق وأفضل .
The computer
I do not think of any device being more wonderful than the computer . This invention, which is spreading world-wide, has contributed to the development of modern technology of which it is a part .It is able to perform complex operations too difficult for man to do on his own. This device , which outdoes man's mental performance, is itself man- made.
It is an ideal example of artificial intelligence .If, however , we computer between human intelligence and artificial intelligence, we find that the former is capable of performing what the human mind cannot perform. The functions performed by this magnificent device are countless. Not only this, but it is the key to electronic civilization because through it we can store all the cultures of nations and select what is practical for us in the fields in which we are working .In the area of writing and printing , for instance , we can produce what we cannot by other means .In the field of teaching , the computer provides us with all that would serve our purposes in the fields we are working in .
Certainly, the computer has become an indispensable tool of Knowledge and education. We can, for example , refer to any big encyclopedia and have access to what we require without trouble or pain. In fact , we do all this in the twinkling of an eye .Likewise, we can find accurate solutions for any problem, whether it is scientific, economic or social . In point of fact, talking about the computer would require more space and a great deal of time , which is not available. However, it could be said that it is the device that enables man to have a better and more accurate knowledge of both the past and the present.
